The question for me is whether this ideology or worldview is coherent and thus sustainable. If it requires cherry picking from modern progress, and if its implications are unspeakable so that the core social Darwinism must be concealed in modern contexts, conservatism isn't a viable philosophy. Conservatives would amount to humanists with respect to the upper class, while being inconsistently dismissive of the lower class's human rights.
