The question Charles Taylor would ask, though, is whether secularism is likewise a "belief system" or a socially constructed culture rather than just a set of scientific theories.

I think there is a secular culture (e.g. liberal humanism, and a Faustian/Luciferian drive for progress by controlling and undermining nature), and I even think it has some nonrational (not strictly logical or empirical) foundations. We'd then have to move to a nonrational (moral and aesthetic) evaluation of secular and religious cultures and worldviews.

The question, for instance, is whether all the embarassing, dubious myths are on the side of theistic religion. See the article below (especially the last section), where I compare secular and religious myths.
