The problem might rather be that there's an overabundance of myths or meaningful stories. It's hard to believe your culture or your metanarrative is especially profound in a multicultural context or when you have the internet that presents you with a plethora of competing narratives.

The secular West has all kinds of myths or presupposed memes and grand narratives. We see them in corporate advertising and in Hollywood movies and streaming television shows. The problem is that it's hard to live by any of them or to trust in them spiritually because of the fear of missing out on an alternative perspective. That's the "postmodern" condition.
