The philosophical proofs are indeed simple deductions so they stand or fall on their logical validity and on the truth status of the premises. I think these arguments tend to be less than convincing to nonbelievers because the arguments are afterthoughts. Hardly any religious people become religious by being convinced by them. So these arguments are academic.
