The one submits to nature, or expect nature to flow through us. The other means to replace nature with artificiality, to celebrate human nature in contrast to the broader, inhuman nature of the wilderness. One is conservative, roughly speaking, and the other is liberal. Civilization is inherently liberal, progressive, and humanistic, whereas conservatism is tribal, regressive, and animalistic, as I've argued in my series on conservatism.
