The intention isn't as important to me as the effect. Haidt would have various intentions, one of which is to have a career in the US. He found a niche. He also has his politics. For instance, he rails against wokeness on campus. Regardless of his intentions, though, the effect of that theory is to support political centrism. Of course, that doesn't mean the theory wrong. I suspect it's more likely empty than mistaken. Those polarities may show up in the research, but there could be a hundred more characterological polarities that tilt the discussion in different directions. Again, what's suspicious is the choice of polarities to study. He added one on liberty, for instance, to appeal to libertarians.
