The difference between high- and low-mindedness is a thing. I didn't make it up. Think of fine art, the intelligentsia, classy, genteel, urbane, sophistication, high-brow vs kitsch, vulgarity, barbarism, boorish, plebeian, unrefined, low-brow, etc.

Yes, we attempt to assimilate sex with culture, and that includes some intellectuals. I think it's telling that Hinduism is a prominent source of those excuses. As I point out elsewhere, Hinduism is defined by its eclectic inclusions.

The fact that some hypocrisy exists doesn't mean there aren't all kinds of excuses to dull the cognitive dissonance. We're experts at offering such excuses. That's in fact the essence of culture itself, the telling of fictions to distract us from our existential condition.
