The debate is surely useful to those who are interested in religion and philosophy. Granted, most people aren't. They couldn't care less about philosophy and they only pretend to be pious. Most of those folks are sleepwalking, existentially speaking. Is it "useful" to try to awaken someone who's sleepwalking? It could be dangerous to do so. Maybe it's best to just steer clear, try to remove dangerous obstacles from their path, and have a laugh now and again at their expense.

Most Christians are too busy engaging in charity work to care about philosophy? You mean when they're not cheerleading the military blunders of Ronald Reagan and George W Bush, and the cultish, fascist insanity of Trumpism? And when they're not apologizing for the Republican version of runaway capitalism? On balance, it's far from clear that American Christians are doing more good than harm in the world.

Teaching kids the difference between right and wrong doesn't entail teaching them the nonsense of the Christian creed. Do you see the difference?
