You don't see something excessively feminine about the Democrats, and masculine about the Republicans? There are clearly different cultures in the urban and rural US. The country has always been divided like that since the Civil War.
You really don't see the difference between beer and wine either? Literalism isn't the issue. You're short-changing yourself. I come from an arts background, so I have a habit of paying attention to the little details. To draw something well you have to look carefully at the reference. If you're drawing birds, you have to study birds--not just glance at them, but learn everything there is to know about them. That's the ideal anyway.
And it's the same with understanding anything at the philosophical or scientific level. So what you're implying is that you're not interested in understanding things to that extent. You're content with some street smarts maybe. That's fine, but it doesn't mean the more extensive analysis has to be full of hot air from marijuana smoke. It might seem that way to you, and of course some philosophy and religion is plain BS. But it's too easy to dismiss something you don't understand.
