That's well said. There are tribal reactions here to be wary of. We easily demonize our opponents, which means we're quick to demonize those who seem to be defending them.
It would take superhuman empathy to forgive Trump or to defend him in the Christ-like fashion of loving him as an equal person. Indeed, that kind of neutrality might itself be objectionable.
The question, then, is about the proper attitude we should take when faced with real evil or with stubborn antisocial personalities. Evil and demonization have historically had theological meanings, but I suspect they're grounded in sociological and psychological patterns which needn't be given a religious interpretation.
