That's sort of a side point here, though. That would be going further, to say that the masses mean to eliminate intellectual elites because the latter betrayed their calling. That might be arguable, but the point about an ancient cold war here is that each side has always been ambivalent about, and alienated from the other, long before the modern elites may have betrayed their calling. That betrayal may figure into certain skirmishes, but I think modern liberalism has a number of causes. It's not all about punishing elites for their double crosses. As I say in the article, it's partly about throwing the baby out with the bathwater (getting rid of philosophy along with discredited Christian theology and theocracy).
