That's certainly true for the reform or secularized Jews, including my Jewish family. We treat the message of the scriptures as more important than whether the theological events are historical. The only historical fact matters is that Jews were oppressed or downtrodden for a long time. That fact, however, may be used to excuse Israel's current domination in the Middle East.
