That's an intriguing distinction. I wonder, though, whether we'd prefer to be "human" or heroic pawns of Fate if the latter meant living heroically and adventurously, getting the prince or princess as our mate, winning the treasure, becoming world-renowned, and so on. You can call the hero a pawn, but in the myth the hero lives like a king.
