That's an interesting run-down. My understanding of the Scandinavian democracies, though, is that they're becoming more neoliberal. (I could be wrong since I don't follow them that closely.)
There's also the global populist backlash against democracy and neoliberalism to consider. Perhaps the attraction of authoritarian leaders is that they give people the illusion of direct control over their lives that wasn't being fulfilled by the rigged democracies.
