That's an interesting comparison between inner and outer conquests. Is the outer conquest, though, really an "empty shell"? It might be short-lived and self-destructive, but secular humanists trust in our ability solve social problems. Otherwise, the Nietzschean death of God would have been truly catastrophic.
I suspect an ancient sage would say the inner "conquest" is indeed a reduction of the aggression or indignation needed for any real conquest. It's something of a stretched metaphor to call the deflation of egoism a "conquest," since the effort needed is little more than a kind of passive introspection.
