That's a good point, and I think you're talking specifically about the professionalization of philosophy. Ironically, academic philosophers have strayed into obscure pseudoproblems precisely to appear more scientific because all the academic disciplines seem to have to compete with science for funding and prestige. In this respect, Western culture is science-centered, and Tyson just piles onto that prejudice, as it were.
