That's a fine way of putting the problem: over-evolved or hyper-adapted. That's consistent with my view that nature's self-development is monstrous. Life's evolution is accidental and mindless, so there are bound to be natural discontinuities, contrary to the Taoist assurance that everything balances out in the end and that we should trust natural simplicity or efficiency. Instead of trusting what's monstrous, though, we tend to think the heroic task is to slay the monster.
