That would be great if I could always generate a fevered dream in the reader, leaving a series of tantalizing clues that set the reader on the way to epiphany. Even prophecy is like that since the prophet is trying to translate a private revelation into public statements. Poetry, too, should be hard to understand. If a writer has something important to say, the challenge is to communicate the ideas while not betraying the vision. It's a balancing act.
