That statement about divisions is against conventional, pragmatic, biological, or otherwise nonspiritual relationships. Jesus was opposed to the ungodliness of conventional society, to economic inequality which puts money or earthly power before God, and to familial commitments which does the same. So Jesus came to divide parents from their children, etc. That was part of his dualistic strategy for uniting humanity in his vision of God’s supremacy and the timeless afterlife. According to Jesus, all of mainstream, secular society must be abandoned as wrongheaded, because God’s judgment was imminent.

I’m not defending Jesus or Christianity. I’m an atheist who believes Christianity is the world’s worst religion and that Jesus likely didn’t exist in history (see the first two links below).

I’m saying that if Biden’s platitudes about being a healer and a uniter are to be taken seriously, he’s setting himself up to be judged in comparison to the likes of Jesus, in which case Biden’s failure to denounce the devil in his midst looks weak AF. So Biden is bound to be hoisted by his own petard.

You might want to have a look at the ground I’ve covered in my previous writings, to get a sense of where I’m coming from (third link).
