But I'd be surprised if psychiatric orthodoxy set itself in opposition to anything that furthers the agenda of neoliberal capitalism. The fast food industry is behind the obesity epidemic, just as the pharmaceutical one is behind the opioid epidemic. Psychiatrists presuppose the legitimacy of both industries in their concept of mental health or disorder since that concept appeals to the need to fulfill our social functions (which depend on the social norms and conventions).
