That cosmicist, mystical, or agnostic kind of atheism is the kind I advocate and I agree it can be enlightening. The laughable kind of atheism is the kind where “atheism” stands for a strident, optimistic kind of secular humanism, coupled with scientistic naturalism, as “atheism” often does in cases of so-called new atheism. This is the kind of atheist who means to sell atheism as an equally viable alternative to monotheism, by holding out an atheistic worldview as supplying us with an ultimate and even reassuring explanation of everything. What I aim to show in the above article is that that naturalism as an ultimate explanation dissolves itself, so we’re not dealing with apples and apples when it comes to monotheism and the pompous secularist’s all-encompassing naturalism.
