Thanks. This article is a little more advanced than many of my other ones. I tried to avoid jargon, but the topic itself is head-scratcher.

Indeed, that's a difference between the gospels and something like the Buddhist scriptures or Greek philosophical texts. There's little discussion of the nature of truth in the New Testament. The point is just that the Romans are skeptical and perhaps cynical.

Yet the Christian insiders are supposed to know that Jesus the person was the Truth. This is like North Koreans worshiping their dictator or like Trumpians worshipping Trump--or indeed Romans worshipping their emperor. It's an honourific title at best, which dodges the philosophical question of the nature of truth.
