Thanks for the link. I agree, more or less, that capitalism is a culprit here, although I don't think you need a postmodern perspective to see this. "Consumer" is practically synonymous with "adult baby." When I think of what "consuming" means, I think of constant cravings and the ravenous devouring of goods and resources, like an ever-hungry, helpless baby that can't see beyond its needs.
Technological empowerment, too, though, is infantilizing. Modernity in general, then, seems ironically infantilizing. It's about the escape from the horrific godlessness of what the Age of Reason discovered about our existential situation.
