Thanks. Certainly, academics have to specialize in very narrow ways, but I've heard that the Medium algorithm reserves a special place for "niche" writers too, as opposed to generalists like me. The algorithm would prefer that you write the same article over and over again; that way, it knows how to categorize you. Of course, that's setting yourself up for burnout.
Plus, philosophy and pulling topics together with an overarching perspective are in short supply here, so I prefer to weave together a larger worldview that encompasses different subjects (politics, religion, history, philosophy, etc).
Freelancers could write a book on the side, but typically freelancing is already on the side, so how many sides are there?
