Thanks. But I think it's a little too easy to say that conservatives are just liars. There are differences in character and in education, too, that guide our interpretations of the evidence. Whether we approve of secular democratic socialism depends on what we value. There are major differences between the subcultures of rural and urban areas. And it's not so easy to say that one culture is better than another, because that's largely a value judgment, and the superiority or inferiority of values or ideals isn't so black and white.

If conservatism is based on some frauds and self-deceptions, I think these become so ingrained that they form a self-perpetuating worldview and a culture. On existential grounds, then, I'm led to ask whether there's any such thing as a culture or a worldview that isn't based on "lies" and self-deceptions. What are values or ideals but acts of faith and gross departures from the amoral facts of nature? Isn't civilizational progress a monstrous lie, given our destruction of the biosphere?

Indeed, this comment is inspiring me to write an article on the subject. :)
