Thanks, and those are Interesting observations, as always. I also remember when they were called "social studies." And I believe economics was called "political economy," which nicely gestures towards the inherent politicization of the inquiry (link below).

In the article I argue that the social sciences can be somewhat scientific even if they don't engage in experimentation, as long as they adopt the humanistic, progressive culture of critical thinking, skepticism, humility, and so forth. If you try to be objective and to go where the evidence takes you, you'll probably find a way to improve your understanding of how things work. The politicization of economics would therefore conflict with its scientific status at a fundamental level.
