Yes, pragmatically Newtonian mechanics works on that scale, but that doesn't mean its picture of matter is realistic. It's useful in that it leads to the right predictions, but its model is only an approximation of what's really happenning. Quantum mechanics is a deeper approximation, and there's no adequate bridge theory to connect the two.

So the largescale consequences are handled by Newtonian equations but not by a clockwork mindset or worldview. Quantum mechanics has undermined that deistic metaphor. That was my point.
