Sure, there's a gray area, because we can be inconsistently poetic (i.e. linguistically creative). Even in a full-blown poem, some parts may be more creative and may work better than others. So some parts may be more essentially poetic than others--within a poem.

Ah. A ‘gray area’ of course there is. How wide and what shade – ? Now , that is the question.
