Sure, but what's the difference between a true-believer and a self-deceiver? If someone doesn't know how to think and allows herself to be deceived by getting all her information from Fox News and the most preposterous conspiracy theories, why should that person's stated beliefs be taken at face value?

The problem is we're not always reliable in reporting our intentions, because we often deceive ourselves, and some do so a lot more than others.
