Stoicism? Any compromise between the two extremes would amount to a shift rightward because one of the extremes is purer and more aggressive than the other. The left is too compromising, corporate, and centrist, so the compromise would be between the right and the center. What's needed, rather, is a reformation of the American left. Alas, that's outside the Overton window.
