So you're saying that as long as someone's acting in good faith and not against his or her conscience, that person should be left alone in all respects rather than criticized. This leaves aside the consequences of our actions which are also subject to criticism. Even if we don't feel bad about our actions, as consumers for example, that doesn't mean we shouldn't feel bad because we should have known better.

Moreover, you're assuming that the Catholic Church acts in good faith. History suggests that's not entirely so. The Catholic Church is the world's richest religion even while it promotes the illusion that all the priests live in poverty.
