What a comfort it must be, though, to have such a self-reinforcing delusion: you can dismiss anyone who disagrees with your wild fantasies as being stupid (or sinful, demonic, etc). The playbook for selling your religion was centuries in the making, as were the rationalizations for Christendom's unmistakable betrayal of Jesus's values, as the latter were represented in the New Testament.
