Right, there's a big difference between talking about God in literary terms, as a character in old fictions, and talking about what a real deity would be like. The more God is presented as caring about morality, the more we're fictionalizing ultimate reality by construing it in parochial terms that would obviously have nothing to do with the source of black holes and quantum mechanics. Morality has to do with tribes of humans struggling to live together. To understand what a real deity would be like, we'd need to stretch our minds and set aside the conditions that apply only to creatures like us. But the more we stretch our minds, the less personal God becomes, in which case theism turns atheistic.
