Right, and that's why Leo Strauss said the ancients' intellectual elitism was wise: keep the disturbing esoteric truths for the intellectual vanguard, leaving the exoteric noble lies for the masses who can't handle the cosmic truth.

But my view isn't that we should stew in angst. Rather, we should sublimate existential awareness in great acts of artistic and engineering genius. We should leave aside petty conflicts and conduct our war or existential rebellion against the wilderness with honour and resolve. The alternative of sticking our head in the sand seems counterproductive as well as unseemly (infantilizing).
