Really, hubris plays no part in human history which largely defines who we are? I agree that the dichotomy can be exaggerated, as it often is in science fiction. But I don't think we can understand what we are without that dichotomy. It's politically correct and rather sentimental to say we're at one with nature. The looming environmental crisis says otherwise. Civilizations have been at odds with nature for five thousand years. And that dichotomy makes us anomalous.
