Putting faith in philosophy to save the day is little better than trusting in a religious miracle, because philosophy is unpopular. What's popular are the parasitic substitutes for philosophy, such as the happiness, positive-thinking, and self-help industries; New Thought and Wokeness cults for the spoiled elites; the ideologies of consumerism in corporate advertizing, and of neoliberalism in mainstream journalism; the cynicism in standup comedy, and so on. There are all kinds of pseudo-philosophizing going on in popular culture that push out genuine philosophy, including on Medium.

Certainly, if the climatologists are right and their models aren't exaggerating or leaving out crucial details, we might be destroying ourselves with our "progress." I do hear of possible technologies that could improve the situation, such as genetically engineered bugs that eat plastic, or genetically grown meat (that wouldn't require industrial farming with livestock). But you hear about these things in an article or a documentary, and then they seem to disappear. Who knows how long it takes for technological improvements to catch on or whether they're viable?
