Plenty of libertarian or "conservative" economists work at conservative think tanks which aim to influence government policy in the US, by pushing for deregulating areas of the economy. Of course, that's only code for setting up regulations that promote plutocracy (since as I argue elsewhere, conservative thought always boils down to social Darwinism).
