Philosophy and even theology are broad subjects. Anyone could profit from studying either of them (especially philosophy). Academic philosophy isn't the same as philosophy itself, nor is theology the same as a church's exoteric propaganda. I don't know if it's the role of philosophers or theologians to fight modern tyrants or corporations. Studying philosophy instills us with a subversive perpsective so that we no longer take social conventions for granted. What we do with that perspective is another matter.
