Perhaps, but wouldn't that imply that the capitalist has no need of romantic love, since that can't be bought or quantified either? There is indeed such a thing as materialistic Philistinism or at least an incoherence in the worldview of many professionals, since they have to pretend to be robots at work and to go back to their true concerns at home which have nothing to do with reason, money, or measurable utility.
I agree, though, that capitalism or neoliberalism often sets the standards of what's acceptable. If we don't find a way to challenge those standards, though, and to condemn the consumerism that's wreaking the planet, where will narrow-minded pragmatism and capitalist "progress" take us?
