Organisms aren't metaphysically supernatural or miraculous. But they are anti-natural in the sense recognized by Schrödinger who pointed out that life is practically anti-entropic.

Saying that our species is subject to natural selection just as much as most animal species is like saying that a politician who benefits from gerrymandering is subject to democratic norms in an election just like the politicians in a functioning democracy. In both cases, the exception is that the organisms/politicians select their environment, rather than the other way around, as in natural selection. Increasingly, we adapt to artificial environments of our making. That's not natural selection.

The genes keep us on a long leash which allows for all kinds of experimentation.
