Of course the ranks matter more than the individuals. The cult objects of worship would be the US itself, and its constitution, traditions, and power hierarchies. Plus, you'd have the hypermasculine cult of honour, war, death, and so on. You didn't find a cult-like atmosphere of patriotism in the US military?
