Oh indeed. I don't say the Democrats are solely to blame for their country's economic problems. I say they failed to counter the Republicans' libertarian, Gilded-Age-style madness, but instead triangulated with it. Obviously, the recent free trade craze started with Reagan and is still being pushed by the Heritage Foundation under Project 2025. But I'm talking here about the Democrats' role in this paving of the road for Trump's fascist populism. The Democrats switched from being a blue-collar party to a more corporate one, and they did so with neoliberalism, which compromised with Republicans' libertarianism.
