Of course, not all social reactions are "medieval." Modernity was a reaction to medievalism, but that doesn't make modernity medieval in turn.

But you give conservatives' self-image more credit than I would. As I say in some of my articles on conservativism, I explicitly ignore what conservatives say they're doing, or how they conceive of the rationale for their policies (unless I'm specifically criticizing that rationale). Instead of taking the conservative's self-image for granted, such as the Trumpian's reasons for storming the Capitol, I'd focus more on the effects of conservative policies. And that's where the medievalism appears in the conservative's "reaction" to modernity (i.e. in the rejection of secular humanism).
