No, of course I wasn't calling you a fragile Millennial. I don't talk specifically about people I don't know.

I see you alluded parenthetically to one of my articles which criticizes the autobiographical approach to writing. So yes, there is a tension here between our approaches. But remember that my conclusion wasn't that there should be no trace of autobiographical detail in nonfiction writing. I'd just like to make sure we're not writing pure fluff or insubstantial, narcissistic drivel. As long as an author talks about himself or herself in a thoughtful way, I'm fine with it even though it's not my main approach.

(Indeed, I'm currently writing a largely autobiographical novel. I think fiction is the better place for self-exploration.)

This question of vulnerability, though, is an interesting one. Social media invite us to be vulnerable in part because of the promise of anonymity. We take the opportunity provided by YouTube, Facebook, or blogs to talk about ourselves. I suspect this is partly because those who are on the internet a lot are more likely to be introverted.
