Nature has indeed made us social beings. But has nature made us so obsessed with our societies that we aim to destroy the rest of the planet to spread our handiwork? That would be self-destructive on nature's part, which is certainly possible. Another piece of the puzzle, however, is that personhood is an anti-natural anomaly. Nature gives us social instincts but we're free, to some extent, to override them, as in the case of antisocial individuals. We appeal also to our ideals and artificial laws, not to our genes or instincts.
