My article generalizes, so there are always exceptions. And there are a number of complications that account for voting patterns in the US military. New soldiers are young, and young people are more idealistic, so they'll disproportionately vote Democratic. And many soldiers are minorities who likewise tend to be liberal. Finally, there's the recent Trump factor, which likely turned off many soldiers to the Republican Party, since Trump was hostile to the military. But Trump also drove the country insane, so the progressives went overboard with cancel culture, which turned off minorities in turn, making them more conservative.

Still, the articles below point out that military veterans of all ages tend to be Republican. I'd say that's because, however individual soldiers may vote, martial values are obviously more in line with the Republican Party. Certainly, Republicans make a much greater show of being patriotic than do Democrats. Therefore, I'd imagine that Republican soldiers are more open about their political affiliation than are Democratic ones.
