Monism would imply there's one overarching order, whereas there would no such order in a chaotic domain. If nature is fundamentally chaotic or wild, parts of nature could conflict with other parts, and there would be no standards rules for justifying or condemning the results of the conflict. So civilization could oppose the wilderness, and there would be no ultimate reason to surrender and submit to nature. The conflict would be dualistic, not monistic.
