Meaning is a form of domestication, a taming of the absurdity of nature's wildness. Some of the first meanings were found in stone age animism, in the personalizing of nature's indifference, so that we could socialize with the inhuman and feel at home in the indifferent environment.
There's also pseudo-meaning in how natural effects indicate the state of their causes, and in biological functions that are produced by natural selection.
I've argued that the most objective meanings are aesthetic since they reflect nature's creativity. The question is whether the best aesthetic reaction to nature is positive or negative.
