Maybe most people should likewise see a therapist for being so hypocritical about sex, for treasuring that animal side of their nature, while pretending in civil society to have transcended animality.

You want to be treated like a person in polite society, right? You wear your clothes, you respect physical boundaries, you refrain from vulgar speech. But in our private lives, we act like animals in the most conspicuous way, undermining all our conceits that we deserve to rule the planet.

What do we do with the animals that aren't ashamed of their sexuality? Don't we turn them into degraded pets, enslave them as livestock, run them over on the roads, hunt them for sport, cook them for dinner, or exterminate their species and call it "progress"? Isn't that what we truly think about the primitiveness of sex, in our civilized capacity, notwithstanding the maudlin bromides about romantic love?
