Matthew's infancy narrative isn't likely historical since Matthew's preoccupied with making Jesus into a new Moses.

But it's interesting that even the New Testament links Jesus to Egypt, since the resurrected Son of God theology is found essentially in the Osiris myth. The flight to Egypt in Matthew is almost a tip of the hat to the ultimate source of the dying and resurrecting god narratives.
